The West Isn\u2019t Dead. It\u2019s Forgotten Why It Worked.<\/h3>\n

America is not collapsing because it lacks good values.
\nIt is faltering because it no longer understands why<\/em> those values worked or where they came from.<\/p>\n

We have spent decades defending the fruit of our civilization - peace, prosperity, liberty, innovation - while neglecting the root<\/em> that made those things possible. And a tree cannot survive indefinitely on inherited fruit alone.<\/p>\n

Much of today\u2019s civilizational anxiety about immigration, assimilation, relativism, institutional decay circles around symptoms. The harder truth is more uncomfortable: we failed to pass on a coherent account of the human person<\/strong>. Once that understanding eroded, everything downstream became negotiable.<\/p>\n

The Missing Center: Why the Individual Matters<\/h3>\n

At the heart of the American experiment was not greed, isolation, or radical autonomy. It was a moral claim so radical that it reordered history:<\/p>\n

Each human being possesses inherent value; not because of tribe, utility, power, or permission, but because of what they are.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In theological language, this was expressed as Imago Dei<\/em> - the belief that the individual bears the image of God. In political language, it became natural rights. In legal language, due process and equal protection. In economic life, voluntary exchange. In culture, conscience.<\/p>\n

Strip away the metaphysics if you wish, but remove the premise and the architecture does not stand.<\/p>\n

What we now call \u201cindividualism\u201d has been flattened into a caricature. Critics such as Mahmood Mamdani<\/strong> frame it as \u201crugged individualism\u201d - a moral pathology of selfishness and social abandonment. But that critique attacks a straw man.<\/p>\n

American individualism was never about self-absorption<\/em>.
\nIt was about moral irreducibility<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
